Jobs in the andalusian tourism sector
The Human Resources Observatory of the Andalusian Tourist Industry (ORSTA, in the Spanish acronym) has the following priorities regarding employment:
- CONSTANT STUDY AND ANALYSIS OF THE LABOUR DEMAND IN THE TOURISM SECTOR.
- JOB ASSESSMENT AND IDENTIFICATION OF NEW EMPLOYMENT IN THE SECTOR.
Tourism plays a vital role in the Andalusian economic system, as it is the main engine of job creation and income generation in our region. According to the data published by DIRCE (Distribución de Empresas Turísticas por Comunidad Autónoma), in 2008 there were 92,627 tourism companies in Andalusia, equivalent to 15.54% of all tourism companies at the national level, and only second to the figure in Catalonia.
From this data it is easy to understand the increasing importance of the Andalusian tourism sector, due not only to its own evolution, in ways that very often differ from the global situation of the country, but to its specific features.
In this respect, one of the main objectives of the Human Resources Observatory of the Andalusian Tourism sector (ORSTA) will be to carry out a close and comprehensive analysis of the operation of the labour market in the Andalusian tourism sector, in order to study its evolution and gain knowledge of:
- The job supply and demand in the sector. The observatory will analyze the supply and demand of employees in the sector in order to issue recommendations related to the labour force surveys of the sector.
- Job seekers: studying and analyzing the most demanded occupations in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, as well as the unsatisfied supply and demand.
- Registered unemployment in the different tourism related occupations.
- The companies integrated in this sector.
- The different job types carried out in the sector
- The types of workers employed, included those self-employed.
- Job seasonality.
- Job quality. Labour conditions and relationships
- Classes of contracts: studying and analyzing registered recruiting, as well as contracts types by sex and length the contract.
- Wage levels.
- Labour disputes.
- Employment access barriers.
- Study and identification of new sources of jobs.
- Staff and Human Resources policies and practices
In essence, ORSTA wants to gain knowledge on the strong and weak points regarding employment, as well as on the strategies and programme which are currently being developed, in order to propose measures to improve the creation of quality jobs in the tourism sector, through the study of all the internal and external factors playing a part.
To that effect, the Human Resources Observatory of the Andalusian Tourism sector will have the task of:
- Developing an Indicator System that enables the assessment of the effects on employment of the Andalusian tourist industry.
- Constantly study and analyze the demand of workers in the tourism sector, as well as developing specific studies and statistics.
- Study job evolution in the Andalusian tourism sector, considering the different possible locations within the Andalusian region, and depending on the different segments of the sector.
- Carry out studies regarding new jobs and job sources in the sector.
- Increase awareness regarding job quality in the sector.
- Spread information on the employment situation of the Andalusian tourism sector.
- Foster discussion between the different parties included in the sector to formulate specific strategies for job development and improvement.
