Modernization and innovation of training for the tourist industry
The tourist market shows us that a traditional basic training in tourism is no longer enough, but that in each case something else is needed in order to take advantage of the abilities and skills of the professionals working in this sector.
In this respect, we need to identify the training fields that allow for a real alignment between supply and demand, according to the real demand of professionals, and the needs of companies and institutions, considering the necessities of the labour market and the aspirations of the participants in the sector regarding vocational training and personal development.
In other words, we should not forget that we need to satisfy the real needs of:
- Employers (companies and Public Administration), offering them qualified professionals who understand the complex tourist world in its entirety, which is the only way to analyse, understand and interpret it, and who also have specialist training enabling them to undertake efficient decisions and actions.
- Secondly, we need to meet the students' expectations, offering an integrated system of knowledge, as the human factor is essential for the tourism sector, emphasizing attitude training as a tool for reaching total quality, understood not only as the acquisition of capabilities, but also as entrepreneurial and human culture.
In this respect, the ORSTA is in charge of:
- Identifying quality deficiencies within the catalogue of tourist professions, in order to prioritize actions and better answer the real needs of the sector regarding training.
- Analyse the current situation and define, through proposals and recommendations, the desirable situation in the future, taking into account the opinion of all the social agents involved in the tourist experience: employers, workers, Public Administration, etc.
- Investigate new training methodologies to improve its efficiency in all the different training levels.
- To show the future benefits that can be reached, both for individuals and institutions and/or social groups, if the training activities were to adapt more
- effective and modern methodologies, including the development of New Technologies.
- To show the benefits derived from the adoption of a quality training approach, and the way to attain that goal in an efficient way.
